Before we left for our Florida vacation at the end of May, I did this:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Seeing that kind of damage on my first (and likely only) brand new car, even though the damage was miniscule, made me nauseous.

The nausea turned to relief when I realized I could purchase a new mirror cover instead of a whole new mirror, saving me tons of money and a likely insurance claim.

I finally got my passenger side mirror cover replaced today. After the incident, I had ordered a new, color matched one from Quirk Parts for $25.00. There was a mix-up in shipping and they sent me a left one instead of a right one at first, so they had to order the right one direct from Mazda. They did put two-day shipping on it at no extra charge to make up for the delay, though.

Replacing it was simple but also a pain in the rear at the same time. You have to literally pry the cover off, breaking a few of its plastic clips in the process, all the while not damaging the actual mirror housing (the black plastic part). I put a couple minuscule scuffs in that but they’re invisible to anyone but me. Then, once I got the new cover on, I realized there was a clip still sticking out of the bottom.

This was not good for several reasons - the main one being that you can’t really remove this cover without breaking it. Thankfully, I was able to push up on the bottom of the cover and get the plastic to flex just a TINY bit to get that clip inside the housing.

Now, the only remnant of my garage door rendezvous is the little rough spot in the mirror housing, about the size of a fingernail. I can live with it. Feel free to reassure me about it not being a big deal. I could always use that since my OCD rears its ugly head at times.

Before and after pictures attached below. I touched it up with body color touch up paint while waiting for the replacement cover to come in.

Bonus: Cute picture of my dog after we picked her up from spending the weekend at my grandmother’s.

So the mirror made you upset but you let the dog on the leather ? My pup isn't allowed in the Merc or Lexus lol.

She’s my baby and she rides in her car seat. Her hair vacuums right up. :-)

I'm more worried about the dog perforating the leather where it shouldn't be perforated.

Yeah, but she can’t touch it. She stands in her car seat for a while and then if the ride is long enough, she lies down in it and sleeps. Her nails don’t touch the leather.

I love the replaceable mirror cap design. Another Mazda benefit! Good to know, having a few Mazdas in the family.

Try some meguiars plastic X on that mirror housing plastic, it'll smooth it right out.
